This introductory design module challenged High School students to create cohesive non-objective works of art using graphite. They were asked to incorporate traditional design elements like Organic or Geometric Shapes and Lines to create a unified design with variation. They achieved this goal by using elements such as leading lines, repetition, proportion, contrast and tone and value variation. Students were further challenged to ensure their non-objective composition had a definite Focal Point. They achieved this goal by utilizing a traditional design concept known as the Rule of Thirds.
Non-Objective Art is a style of art that relies on various design components to create a captivating composition. “Non-Objective” art does not rely on identifiable symbols, pictorial representations or realism to convey a theme or mood.
