You're Invited! Island School Town Hall

Aloha Island School ‘Ohana,

Here’s to a great start to 2025. I’d like to begin this note with an invitation for parents and guardians to join us for my second Town Hall as your Head of School next Thursday, January 16, 2025, in the morning, from 8:15 - 9:00 am. Island School holds an important place in all our lives as we together share in the growth of your children, our students, and so we are excited to gather the community, share important updates, and connect with one another. We plan for this Town Hall to be an annual occurrence.

In order to consider the impact of travel back-and-forth to campus in a single day and being mindful of the heaviness of traffic in the evenings and the impact on family life, we decided to hold this meeting in the morning. We recognize some families may not be able to attend at this time due to work obligations. You can find the Town Hall livestream link for the meeting here. This way, if you cannot make it to campus, you can view from your location, and if the timing is a conflict, we will send out the recording as soon as possible after the event so you can view the meeting at your convenience.

Coffee and pastries will be available on the Main Hall lanai starting at 7:45 am. Elementary will have their regular Morning Circle at 8:05 am, and we will begin our meeting after they finish. You are welcome to observe the elementary morning circle from the lanai or the back of Main Hall.

As we prepare to share about our institutional growth and aspirations, I wanted to encourage you to do a little bit of pre-reading. If you did not read my post on December 13, “‘Tis the Season,” I would hope you would take a few moments to read it to have context some of what we have to balance as we build our annual budget and set tuition each year.

Every day I work with the Island School team and the Board to help find a community-centered solution to one of our biggest challenges: What is the Island School equation that allows us to provide a strong education in a locality that costs exceptionally more than the national average for cost of living, yet has a tuition model that is lower than comparable independent schools in Hawai‘i in order to be as accessible as possible for Kaua’i families across the socio-economic spectrum?

At the Town Hall, I will be joined by Sam Pratt as Board President, as well as other Board officers and Board members. Together, we look forward to sharing our work with you and engaging with you on Thursday morning.

We hope you will join us in person or online.  Please complete this Google Form to RSVP to let us know you’re coming in person so we can plan accordingly re. chairs, food, etc.

In partnership,
Nancy Nagramada P’29
