SCHOOL RECEPTIONIST (Start immediately)

Duties include: Answering phones, greeting families, assisting students, keeping student

files and attendance updated, and working with office staff to keep a busy school running

smoothly.

Qualifications: Must have skills in dealing positively with a variety of requests from

many different publics, in person and by phone; also, must be able to use the computer,

including word processing, relational data-bases, and accessing and using the internet;

also, must be certified in first aid and CPR and must be able to keep information

confidential as the position deals with sensitive interactions and documents.

Mathematics Teacher

Island School (ischool.org) seeks a mathematics/science teacher with a commitment to private education in a college preparatory environment. This is a 10-month, full time position.

Island School, an Independent college preparatory day school for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. It is located on the island of Kaua’i, the northernmost inhabited island of the Hawaiian Island chain, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the “Garden Island.”

Appropriate candidates should have 2+ years of teaching experience with an emphasis and interest in problem based learning, differentiated instruction, teaching a range of abilities in ability based groupings, and experience teaching some combination of Geometry, and/or Physics. Teaching responsibilities include four or five sections in grades 8-12. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor, full participation in the life of the school, leading a club or other initiative, and/or coaching.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • B.A. degree and 2 + years of relevant teaching experience in a non-profit independent school.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff.

Athletic Director

Island School (ischool.org) seeks a Athletic Director with a commitment to private education in an college preparatory environment. This is a 12-month, full time position and reports to the Head of School.

Responsibilities will include developing, implementing, and managing the school’s Athletic Department. Essential functions include:

  • Acts as consultant to the administration and coaching staff.
  • Is responsible for ordering and purchasing all uniforms and/or equipment and accessories for teams..
  • Works with Head of School to recruit coaches and make coaching assignments.
  • Works with coaches to insure that all athletes have the necessary health forms completed and on file.
  • Meets with all head coaches at the beginning of the season to review policies, guidelines, and expectations. Meet with all head coaches during the season to review progress conduct meetings as needed to keep them informed pertaining to their coaching, school schedules, and the athletic program. Conducts formal evaluations of coaches and review with coaches.
  • To organize regular information on the various programs for public recognition of athletic achievements through school web site and local newspaper.
  • Conducts individual reviews with all coaches.
  • Oversees all the athletic facilities; schedules practice use; recommends maintenance and repairs, prepare fields, ensures all equipment is organized, and maintain inventory.  
  • Works closely with the Booster Club and functions as liaison between all coaches and Booster Club.
  • Develops, supervises and coordinates the budget for the athletic department.
  • Represent IS in all athletic business conducted at the Island and HHSAA levels.
  • Develops and distributes eligibility rosters for all sports.
  • Functions as liaison between the schools athletic and academic programs: distributes rosters, schedules, itinerary, and eligibility.
  • Communicates with parents to support overall athletic goals and philosophy of IS.
  • Promotes PK-12 pride in athletics.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises all athletic awards programs.
  • Maintains sports records.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with coaches, parents, students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and representatives from the sports community.
  • Ability to motivate and manage volunteers.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of social media.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, and confident speaking and writing skills.

PRE-K TEACHER AIDE (2017-2018 School Year)

Duties include: Assisting teachers as requested, supervising students, setting up, cleaning

up and other related tasks.

Qualifications: Must know about early childhood education and have an ability to relate

to children and the teacher, including organizing and implementing activities as

requested, maintaining order, and ensuring the safety, health and well-being of children

in the program. Must be able to discriminate what is private from what is general

information and keep private information confidential. A background in education is

preferred; current certification in first aid and CPR for children.
