Students in grades 6-12 each adopted a Kaua‘i family for the holidays. They were given a profile of the family, including members’ ages and a wish list. Each class decided how they wanted to raise the funds and meet the needs of their family. Gifts were delivered to the Queen Liliokulani Children’s Center in Lihu‘e.
Here is an example of how our students made the holidays brighter:
The freshman class, raised a bit over $200 through $10 donations, and went shopping to buy gifts for their adopted family of five: three girls ages 7, 13 and 18, a boy age 11, and their grandmother, who is raising them. Their gifts included a Christmas tree, ornaments, a Monopoly game, jackets, sneakers, a $50 gift card, and other fun items like sunglasses and makeup. Their class advisers, Susie Massaro, Jenny Lewis and Dave Reynolds organized and supervised their students.
